Mindfulness helps improving emotional control

MindfulnessIt is important to recognize that although mindfulness practice does result in improved emotional control, this is not accomplished by trying to control your emotions with mindfulness. In fact, it is just the opposite. By learning to accept and be open to your emotions in a nonjudgmental manner through mindfulness practice, you can develop internal emotional regulation. Here, internal refers to the brain and psychological structures that foster and promote emotional governance. It is paradoxical: you can’t directly control your emotions and attempting to do so defeats mindfulness; by mindfully being open to your emotions and accepting them for what they are—just temporary, passing events, you develop emotional control. Dr Gary Dayton
